The MRCP(UK) (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom) is a highly regarded postgraduate qualification for doctors aiming to advance their medical careers globally. It is typically undertaken during the general professional training period in medicine after registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) of the UK.

Structure of the MRCP(UK):
The MRCP(UK) examination consists of three parts:
- Part 1: Written exam (100 MCQs per paper, no images).
- Part 2 Written: Written exam (100 MCQs per paper, includes images).
- Part 3 (PACES): Clinical skills assessment in a hospital/clinical setting.
Details of Each Part:
Part 1:
- Format:
- Two 3-hour papers in a single day.
- 100 multiple-choice questions (best of five) per paper.
- Exam Environment: In-person at an exam hall.
- Fee: £ 672 (for international students).
- Passing Marks: 540 (scaled score).
- Marking:
- +1 for correct answers.
- No negative marking.
- Special Notes: An “equating method” ensures consistency in scoring across exam sessions.
Part 2 Written:
- Format:
- Two 3-hour papers in a single day.
- 100 multiple-choice questions (best of five) per paper, including image-based questions.
- Exam Environment: In-person at an exam hall.
- Fee: £ 672 (for international students).
- Passing Marks: 454 (scaled score).
- Marking: Same as Part 1.
Part 3 (PACES - Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills):
- Format:
- Half-day exam in a clinical setting (hospital/clinical skills center).
- 7 core skills assessed across 5 stations.
- Includes 8 patient encounters.
- Fee: £ 1,278
- Passing Criteria:
- Pass all clinical stations based on set standards.
- Achieve a minimum score of 130 out of 170.
Marking System:
- Equating Method: A statistical approach based on item response theory to ensure fairness across different exam sessions.
- Scoring:
- Candidates receive an "overall scaled score."
- Marks are calculated based on correct responses and exam difficulty.
